SEO, or search engine optimization, is the process of making your website and its content more visible and easier to find on search engines like Google and Bing. There are a number of things you can do to improve your SEO, from optimizing your website’s code to including keywords in your content.

1. Use anchor tags

Anchor text is the visible text in a hyperlink. It tells you what the clickable link will take you to and is an important ranking factor for search engine optimization. 

2. Write informative and useful content

Every page on your website should be designed with one goal: to provide value to your audience so don’t write 500 words if 200 would do the same job. Your content needs to be relevant, interesting, and engaging.

3. Improve your website’s speed

Google has stated that speed will be a ranking factor and to help with this you should ensure that every image on your website is optimized. You should also regularly check your file sizes and remove any large files that are no longer required.

4. Get social shares via the right platform

A high number of social shares is great for SEO reasons but make sure that they come from the relevant platforms like Facebook or Google+ etc. If you use Twitter, make sure it mentions the right search term as well e.g @twitterapi instead of just Twitter because it doesn’t contain a mention of ‘Twitter’ which decreases its weight in the eyes of search engines.

One of the most common problems with a website is having links that lead to 404 pages. This will decrease your SEO as it means that people can’t easily find what they are looking for. To fix this you should go through all of the pages on your site and check if they have been linked correctly.

6. Keep content fresh and relevant

It’s easy to think that just because you’ve put an article online, it’s ok for it to stay there forever but search engines will see this as unhelpful – provide new content or edit existing articles so that readers get more value from them and search engines return more accurate results and higher rankings over time.

7. Use social media platforms effectively

Don’t just rely on one form of social media. If you use Facebook, make sure you also add updates to Twitter and post on Google+ as well to increase the odds of your content being seen by the maximum number of people.

8. Keep your navigation simple

If possible avoid using the drop down menus or other complex navigational tools as they confuse search engines and don’t really do a great job at telling users where they will end up if they click through to a different section of your website. A good rule would be that users should easily know where they are going on first glance without having to think or mouse over it
